Betty (Humans of RiverWoods)
Introducing #humansofriverwoods 📸 This new series inspired by "Humans of New York" allows us to share the incredible stories of our residents and employees.
First up is Betty, who chairs the resident-driven Inclusivity Committee at RiverWoods Exeter with the mission to pursue social justice in all forms. “I just want to continue learning. How we can make a change in society, I’m not sure, but if we can serve an educational purpose here [at RiverWoods], that’s a start. Betty shared that residents of all faiths and political beliefs are welcome to participate in discussions and attend meetings. “Compassionate listening is also important—active listening without reacting and being open to various perspectives.” -

Pat (Humans of RiverWoods)
Our next #HumansofRiverWoods feature is Pat O’Keefe, the Director of Capital Projects. He was eager to share insight into his current role, a position that allows him to leverage his skills in project management and finance to improve processes within the community. "I do a lot of working with the facilities, directors, community life teams and executive directors on managing the process of various projects, and establish different procedures and guidelines that weren't in place before.”
Reflecting on his decision to join RiverWoods, he highlighted the appeal of work-life balance and the opportunity to make an impact. "RiverWoods has practiced what they preached and what they sold me on. Everyone is welcoming to innovation…" -

Jen (Humans of RiverWoods)
Our next #HumansofRiverWoods feature is Jen Hunt, the Housekeeping Manager for RiverWoods Durham. “Once I started working here, the residents made me feel like I was at home. I’ve got 200 grandparents; they just welcome you in.”
When thinking about what has shaped her into the person and leader she is today, Jen reflects on discovering she had a heart condition at the age of 19. "I was driving home from work when my heart stopped, and I was put into an induced coma for about a week. They weren’t sure I was going to make it. But I did, here I am!” Although a scary situation, Jen said it changed her outlook on life. “It made me realize I need to live for every moment and be present in any situation and just be mindful of what’s going on.”
